Candela Präzise Konstruktion verbunden mit lebendigem Licht machen die Malerei von Petra Ottkowski zu etwas ganz Besonderem. Nicht der Pinselduktus, sondern der fein nuancierte Farbverlauf, die delikat lasierend aufgetragene Farbe sind ihre Gesten. Würfel werden in ein Vielfaches aufgefächert, in Flächen geteilt, perspektivisch verzogen, dass man als Betrachter manchmal nicht weiß, welche Form sich nach außen oder innen kehrt, was nun ein Schatten oder eine Spiegelung sei. Bewußt gesetzte Irritationen, die den Raum öffnen, den Betrachter fordern. Durch perfekte Raumauffalt- ungen, mehrere Lichtquellen, Verschiebungen und optische Täuschungen zeigt Petra Ottkowski eine kalkulierte Mystik, lässt trockene Geometrie stimmungsvoll erscheinen und führt uns in lebendige Architektur. Die Ottkowskischen Räume sind lichtdurchflutet, werfen natürliche Schatten, sind fenster- und türenlos und trotzdem kann man durch diese rätselhaften Orte wandeln. Man erinnert sich einerseits an verwunschene Gegenden, welche durch einen Sonnenstrahl erweckt werden. Wie außerirdische Gebilde stehen sie in einem hellen Licht und möchten durchwandert werden, wecken verloren geglaubte Entdeckungsgeister, haben etwas Geheimnisvolles. Anderseits begeistert die Klarheit, die sich in der Basis der Mathematik, Geometrie und Architektur wiederfinden lassen. „Candela“ impliziert genau diesen Dualismus indem er poetisch-verspielt erscheint und zugleich das Einheitsmaß für Lichtstärke in der Physik ist. Damit wird nochmals auf den malerischen Schwerpunkt des Lichtes hingewiesen. Es gelingt Petra Ottkowski das Emotional-Sinnliche und Rationale anzusprechen, was für den Betrachter ein hoher Genuss ist und eine ebenso hohe Qualität ihrer Kunst ausmacht. Kunsthistorisch lassen sich klare Zusammenhänge zum Bauhauskünstler Lyonel Feininger sehen. Aus der zeitgenössischen Kunst zeigen sich Verbindungen zu Sol LeWitt, Dan Flavin und der Turner Preisträgerin Tomma Abts. Sowohl in öffentlichen als auch privaten Kunstsammlungen ist Ottkowski regional bis international vertreten. Längst ist Petra Ottkowski keine Unbekannte mehr. Mehrfach ist sie mit ihren Werken in Gruppenausstellungen positiv aufgefallen. Wir freuen uns sehr, dass wir in der in Leipzig inzwischen längst überfälligen Einzelausstellung „Candela“ einen Einblick in ihr aktuelles Schaffen geben können. Her gestures aren´t the flow of the paint-brush but the fine shading of the color-gradient and the delicate color, which was coated in a glazing way. Cubes are expanding in a multiple, separating in surfaces and draught perspectively. So that the observer sometimes doesn´t know, which form sweep itself inwardly and outwardly and which one is only a shadow or a reflection. Irritations, which open the room, are composed knowingly and ask the viewer. Petra Ottkowski shows through perfect folding of rooms, several sources of light, dislocations and visual illusions a calculate mystic. At the same time the artist lets seeming dry geometry atmospheric and directs us in lively architecture. The rooms of Ottkowski are light-flooded, throw natural shadows, without windows and doors and in spite of that you can stroll through these mysterious places. On the one hand you remember on banned areas, which are inspired through a sunray. Like extraterrestrial figures do they standing in a clear light and liked to be cross, to awake spirits of discovery which were lost and have something very mystical. On the other hand does elate the clearness, which recovers itself in the base of the mathematics, geometry and the architecture. “Candela” implies exactly this dualism by seeming poetic-coltish and is at the same time the general degree for the luminosity in the physics. Trough this you can indicate again on the pictorial main focus. Petra Ottkowski succeeded to appeal the emotional-sensual and the rational in her painting, which indwells a high pleasure and quality. In the art historical way there are clear connections to the Bauhaus-Artist Lyonel Feininger. From the contemporary art you can see relations to Sol LeWitt, Dan Flavin and the prize-winner of the Turner-Award Tomma Abotts. In the public art collections as well as in private collections Ottkowski is already representing regional and international. Petra Ottkowski is not anymore an unknown person. Plural times she attracted attention with her works in group-exhibitions in a positive way. We are pleased a lot, that we can give in Leipzig an insight in her current producing in the meanwhile delinquent single-exhibition “Candela”.
