Ex oriente lux (das Licht kommt aus dem Osten) – ein Hinweis auf die Quelle der
Inspiration und geistige Gesinnung der beiden Künstler Sonomi Kobayashi (NY) und
Udo Klenner (GER). Die Verwandschaft nicht nur in der Ungegenständlichkeit, sondern
vor allem in der inhaltlichen und formalen künstlerischen Haltung und Herkunft
ist frappierend. Beiden Künstlern geht es um Harmonie durch Chaos, Vielfalt durch
Reduktion, Leichtigkeit und Dichte. Genau dieser dialektische Ansatz macht die
Qualität und Spannung dieser Kunst aus! Der Betrachter wird zum Akteur. Die Lust
zum kontemplativen Sehen wird angeregt. Die Ausstrahlung, Harmonie, Formen und
Dichte eines jeden Bildes dieser Ausstellung, ist immer auch ein Abbild von Welt
und ihrer nonverbalen Strukturen.

Die auffällige Überlagerung von Motiven symbolisiert Zeitenwechsel und kann auch
als zeitliche Überschneidungen von Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft gelesen werden.
So wie wir unsere Vergangenheit, an die wir uns lediglich erinnern, täglich neu
schreiben, so ändert sich die Erinnerung und Wahrnehmung vom Jetzt ebenso täglich.
Speziell der häufige Gebrauch von Kreisen und anderen runden Objekten bei Sonomi
Kobayashi reflektieren das häufige Auftreten im Universum. Der Wunsch nach einer
Verbindung zum All.

Beeindruckend ist neben der Ähnlichkeit der Unterschied und damit die tolle Korres-
pondenz der Werke von beiden Künstlern, die erstmals in dieser Ausstellung dialogisch
gezeigt werden. Kobayashi und Klenner begegnen sich erstmals in der Galerie ARTAe
in Leipzig. Zugleich ist es die erste Ausstellung für Sonomi Kobayashi in Europa.

Udo Klenner setzte als Regisseur das Stück „Wie der Wind im Ei“ von Yoko Tawada
1999 in Berlin um. Zu den Lesungen wird der Künstler Udo Klenner ebenso anwesend sein.

Ex oriente lux (the Light Comes from the East) – an indication of the source
of inspiration and mental mindset of both artists: Sonomi Kobayashi (NY) and
Udo Klenner (B). The relationship is not only in the nonfigurative, but above all,
in form and content. Their artificial attitude and origin is astonishing.
The main focus of both artists is harmony via chaos, diversity via reduction,
lightness, and concentration. Precisely this dialectical basis of their approach
constitutes the quality and suspense of the art. The viewer gets to be the actor.
The passion of contemplative seeing is animated. The charisma, harmony, forms,
and concentration of each painting of this exhibition is also a reflection of
the world and its nonverbal structures.

The conspicuous overlay of motifs symbolizes the change of time and can be
interpreted like the temporal intersection of past, present and future. The past –
only what we remember, and we rewrite the past daily – changes because of the
recollection and the cognition of the now. The use of the circles and round objects
in the work of Sonomi Kobayashi especially reflects the structure of the universe.
The desire to conjunct with the universe.

Impressing next to the affinity the difference, and therefore, with the fantastic
correspondence of the artworks of Sonomi Kobayashi and Udo Klenner, which are shown
the first time combined like a dialogue. Kobayashi und Klenner met the first time at
the Gallerie ARTAe in Leipzig. Likewise it is the first exhibition for Sonomi Kobayashi
in Europe.
